Perfect Spring to Summer Sweater

IMG_0077IMG_0067IMG_0116IMG_0069IMG_0110IMG_0093

Hi all! It’s currently snowing here in D.C. and I’m wishing it was time for warmer weather! Since spring is right around the corner I thought I’d share a sweater that I’ve been wearing on repeat lately. It has the CUTEST back and is perfect for spring with jeans or with cutoffs for summer evenings! For daytime I’ve been wearing it with converse but you can totally dress it up at night with a pair of wedges. I love that the back detail elevates it from your basic white sweater to something more unique. This sweater is from one of my all time favorite boutiques Elle G. If you’re ever in Rhode Island give it a visit! They are always posting new arrivals on Instagram and are awesome about answering DM’s with purchase requests! I totally recommend giving them a follow, they order in limited quantities and clothes go fast! I’m super excited to give you guys a discount code for 15% off! Just use “maddie15” at checkout 🙂 Happy shopping!

Spring Shoe Edit

Happy almost spring everyone! Here in D.C. it still feels like the middle of winter, but nevertheless I have been starting to get ready for warmer temperatures. Shoes are a really good way to transition outfits between seasons. A light sweater and jeans can become an easy spring outfit with the addition of a good pair of sandals! I’ve rounded up a few of my picks for the spring and wanted to share them with you all.

1

1. Sam Edelman Cabrera Platform Espadrilles: These are perfect shoes for everyday casual outfits. I can totally see myself wearing these with jeans or cutoffs to run errands for the day. This pink is my favorite and goes with almost anything since it’s pretty neutral.

2

2. Marc Fisher LTD Espadrille Wedge: I got these wedges last summer and they are seriously the perfect spring shoe. They work with casual outfits as well as more dressed up looks. The heel isn’t that tall and they are really comfortable to walk in. They come in six colors and Nordstrom is always restocking sizes. I’m debating scooping up another color when they do!

3

3. Jeffrey Campbell Zocalo Slide Sandal: Usually I’m not the biggest fan of yellow but I really like these sandals. They are dressy enough that you can wear them to dinners but are still so easy to slip on and head out! As much as I love heels sometimes I want to change it up and these still make an outfit feel put together.

4

4. Mark Fisher LTD Annie Perforated Espadrille: I just got these a couple of weeks ago and I’m totally obsessed! The perforated leather is good for anyone who lives somewhere that gets hot. These also come in six colors. Marc Fisher is really good at picking neutrals, all the colors are adorable! I’m totally drooling over the blush suede pair.

5

5. Tory Burch Patos Sandal: These sandals are a bit of a splurge but I think they’re really cool. They come in three colors, but I like the black best. I love that they are a little different from a lot of sandals this season.

6

6. See by Chloé Valentina Slide: These are a little pricy as well but I think they’re worth the money. The color is so cute and they would go with just about anything. I’m a huge fan of Jack Rogers, and these remind me of them. They would be perfect with just about any denim wash and are so easy to style!

7

7. Sam Edelman Yaro Ankle Strap Sandal: These sandals are perfect for the office. The heel isn’t too high and they come in soon many colors! The chunky heel makes them easy to walk in. I tend to wear through the bottoms of really thin heels pretty quickly so I’m always looking for cute shoes with a thicker heel. These are so versatile and could totally work for in or out of the workplace.

8

8. Marc Fisher LTD Barlow Wedge Sandal: Ok so these are my absolute favorite shoes this season. I just got them in and I can’t wait for it to be warm enough to wear them! They aren’t super tall so you can wear them for so many occasions. I’m seriously obsessed, I’d totally recommend!

What shoes have you guys been grabbing for spring??

Winter Whites

IMG_0220IMG_0235IMG_0242IMG_0250IMG_0264IMG_0256IMG_0263

I love that in recent years we have thrown out the “no white after Labor Day” rule. In the winter I tend to be drawn to more neutral colors, and wearing lots of grey and black can get a little dull. If you are like me, whites and blushes are a great way to switch it up! This sweater is so thick and soft, I never want to take it off! I love the little cutout on the shoulder and the fuzzy bottom half. The little details really elevate it from your basic sweater. I tend to get cold easily in the winter so I am always looking for new sweaters. It can be tough to find sweaters that are unique but are still easy to style so that I can get a lot of wear out of them.

My cousin and I took these photos in Mystic while I was home for the holidays. If you are in southern New England visiting Mystic is a must do. Mystic is your quintessential little New England fishing town complete with downtown area and drawbridge. There are so many things to do including an adorable aquarium and maritime museum. While we were shooting it was so windy; my hair was going everywhere! I got this jacket a couple of months ago and get stopped almost every time I wear it. It is the perfect weight for winter and goes with just about anything, plus, it comes in black!  I personally don’t love coats with a cinched waist for when I am wearing multiple layers, and this jacket still lays nicely over sweaters. The only complaint I have is that the snaps easily come undone, so if you plan to wear super thick sweaters it may come undone if you don’t button the innermost button.

One of my goals for 2018 is to post more, so I’m busy planning new content that I’m really excited about! I’m always looking for ideas, so feel free to comment below :).

Sweater Weather

IMG_0775IMG_0794IMG_0778IMG_0747IMG_0769IMG_0790IMG_0751

I’ll confess, I’m totally obsessed with sweaters! This oversized turtleneck is so warm and soft, I never want to take it off. I ordered it in a medium but could have definitely gone a size down because it runs large. Last week I headed to the farmer’s market with my friend Katie and saw this street on my way down. I loved how bright it was with all the yellow leaves. Luckily my friend is awesome and put up with me dragging her three blocks past the farmers market to take pictures! This weekend I’m taking it easy before Thanksgiving festivities coming up. I love the holidays and can’t wait to spend Thursday cooking! If anyone has suggestions for good cookie recipes send them my way 🙂

Leopard Print

I got this cardigan a few weeks ago and have been wearing it constantly. It is from a boutique called Elle G in Rhode Island that has been one of my favorite places to shop for years. If you are ever in the area check it out! She has the best selection of bags as well, like the one in this post. The great thing about Elle G is that everything in the store is under $100, so if you are on the fence about a trend piece this is the place to get it! Their Instagram is worth the follow, because Lauren the owner is constantly getting new things in and often shows them there first! I can’t even count how many times I have messaged them to order something that I have seen on their Instagram story. I spent last weekend at home with my family. I love New England falls and take any excuse to head up there to see them. I can’t believe that we are getting so close to Thanksgiving, it feels like this fall has flown by. I can’t wait to spend the long weekend with my family. What is everyone’s plans for the holiday?

Top (old, similar); Jeans; Boots; Bag (sold out, here are a couple of my other favorites)

Nordstrom Fall Sale

Everyone knows about the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, but Nordstrom actually has a couple other seasonal sales as well! The Fall Sale is an awesome time to grab clothes that will transition into the winter months, as well as those items that you missed during the Anniversary sale. I’m sharing a few of my favorites from this year’s sale.

Leopard Bootie.jpg

I love all the leopard this fall! These booties have the perfect chunky heel for daytime, but you could totally wear them out as well. I love the calf hair on these because it makes them look higher end. These would be adorable with ankle jeans or a sweater dress.

Army Jeans.jpg

I’m not going to lie, I didn’t love the whole camo trend at first. I tried on a pair of camo jeans on a whim and I was an instant convert! They are a little harder to style but they look great with neutral sweaters and tops. I like that this pair is a little cropped, because it makes them perfect for booties.

Sunglasses.jpg

I ordered these sunglasses online and I’m so excited for them to come in! I don’t like sunglasses that are too opaque and these are definitely mirrored. I got them in the rose but am seriously debating getting the black and gold as well. For $53 they’re a total steal too!

Black Turtleneck.jpg

Okay, so I love Free People sweaters, but I often can’t justify the price. This one is adorable and currently under $100. There are so many Free People pieces that are in this sale! I can’t wait to wear this one with my over the knee boots or little booties.

Clutch.jpg

With the holidays coming up, a good clutch is a total necessity. This one is a really unique color but is also one that is really versatile. A lot of fall and winter clothes tend to be more neutral, and this would give outfits a pop of color.

Sweater Dress.jpg

Sweater Dress: This Free People sweater is technically not a dress, but if you order up it’s the perfect kind of slouchy sweater dress. I love sweaters like this with over the knee boots or with a cool textured legging. It comes in a pretty coral as well!

Earrings.jpg

As much as I loved statement necklaces, I think that the statement earring trend is even better. A good pair of statement earrings with a low pony is so chic, and I feel like these would be amazing with a black sweater or leather jacket. Earrings are a really easy way to elevate a look and I think that these won’t go out of style any time soon.

Coat.jpg

Washington gets cold, but for most of last winter I didn’t need the parka I wore through college. I knew this year I would need a mid-weight jacket. I ordered this one today and can’t wait for it to come in! It’s a total steal at $139 too. It’s work appropriate, but is also casual enough to wear out of the office.

Scarf.jpg

I love big, thick scarves because my office is so often freezing. This one looks super soft and comes in a bunch of colors. Cashmere can get really expensive, so I love to look for pieces like this during sales. This one is a little pricier, but for the quality it is a really good deal.

Jeans.jpg

One thing I love about Nordstrom is that they put designer items on sale. I think PAIGE jeans are absolutely adorable, but I personally don’t want to spend $200 on jeans. There are a bunch of really cute pairs on sale this week, including this pair. Jeans are less likely to go out of style than certain trend pieces, so investing in a good designer pair during sales is definitely a good idea.

Tan Bootie.jpg

I walk to work, so I like booties that don’t have too tall a heel. These look so comfortable and come in a few cute colors. I have a few pairs of Vince Camuto shoes and they are all super comfortable, which can be hard to find on a budget. I like that they have a little detailing around the top, but are neutral enough that you can wear them with almost anything.

Bell Sleeves

IMG_0577DSC_4914DSC_4907DSC_4900IMG_0581DSC_4921DSC_4902

Last weekend I went home to Rhode Island for the long weekend! My sister had Monday off so we went shopping and pumpkin picking. I love coming home during the fall because New England is so pretty with the leaves changing. Plus I get to hang with the cutest little dog in the world, Lucy! While I was at Nordstrom, I saw this sweater and totally fell in love with it. The material is super soft and its a really good weight for early fall. It comes in two other colors (I’m seriously debating ordering it in lavender) and its under $50! I love that all three colors are perfect for fall but are a little different from the usual maroons and greens that we see so much this time of year.  I picked up these boots during the Nordstrom sale this summer and seriously adore them. The heel isn’t too high, which I like for casual Fridays at the office. We’ve had this weird half rain half mist for a few days here in D.C. so I’m spending the day getting my closet organized. I hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Perfect Pre-fall Sweater

IMG_0519IMG_0435IMG_0464IMG_0469IMG_0447IMG_0503IMG_0508

I saw this sweater during the Nordstrom Sale and totally fell in love with the sleeve detail. It’s a really good weight for pre-fall because it isn’t super heavy. The sleeves a little long, but personally I like the style of it, especially because my hands are usually cold lol. It’s a really soft sweater. I wear it around the house all the time! Here in D.C. it stays pretty warm well into fall so I’ve been stocking up on sweaters since I won’t have to throw on a jacket for a while. I grew up in New England so I’m totally missing how fun fall is there! I can’t wait to visit home and go pumpkin picking and get apple cider donuts.

Fall Staples

Fall Essentials             It might sound super basic but I live for the fall months. Who doesn’t love throwing on comfy sweaters?? Unfortunately its still in the 80s here in D.C. but I’m hoping we get that fall weather soon. I’m rounding up a few fall staples today that I’m dying for.

  1. Body Con Dress:  I think this dress is soo figure flattering for a wide range of body types! I love maroon but it also comes in six other colors! Each of the colors is so pretty and the fact that they are all pretty neutral makes it versatile. I think it would look adorable under a leather jacket and booties or with a chunky cardigan.
  2. Layered Disk Necklace: Disk necklaces like this one are such a big trend this fall, and I love them. I wear mine almost every day! Its one of those pieces that you can throw on with almost anything and it really elevates the outfit. The Baublebar necklace I linked is backordered but this one is also adorable!
  3. Distressed Jeans: I love that everyone is currently doing these distressed hems on jeans, I think it looks so cool! I just discovered Express denim (I know, I’m so late to the game on this one) but they have super trendy jeans and they’re so comfortable! I feel like they’re always running amazing promotions on their denim. I’ve been living in distressed jeans because it’s still hot in D.C. and they’re a little lighter than normal jeans. I love that you can throw converse on with them or dress them up a little with heels.
  4. Satin Camis: I love layering, especially since the temperature in buildings is so much cooler than outside around here! This cami comes in four colors and I love the little lace cutouts. I’m always looking for basics that are a little more unique. I think that this would be perfect under a giant cardigan.
  5. Suede Jacket: I absolutely love suede everything! I got last year’s version of this jacket and I’m obsessed with it. This years’ has such a cool girl vibe and I think it would be perfect with dark wash flare jeans and booties.
  6. Ankle Booties: I’ve been on the hunt for a good pair of booties since my last pair gave out, and I can’t wait to get these! I think that ankle booties are one of those things that everyone should have in their closet, they’re so versatile! This pair is such a steal (they’re under $100) and also come in black.
  7. Equestrian Boots: I have this pair of boots and love them for casual days. I have more muscular calves and these are still loose on me. They are really nice quality and are currently on sale!
  8. Layering necklaces: As much as I loved statement necklaces, I really like the more simple layered jewelry that’s everywhere right now. I think this necklace is so cool and would look adorable with a couple other necklaces or on its own.
  9. Chunky Knits: Big cozy sweaters are always a fall staple. My mom is big into knitting and I’m always begging her to knit things for me! I feel like I’ve seen this Free People cardigan all over social media and it looks so soft, I’m dying to get it once it gets a little cooler here!
